Charley makes my life bigger. After losing my previous dog, Leia, I knew I wanted another dog to love, but I never anticipated how many new experiences, friendships, and communities Charley would bring into my life. Together, we have explored South Florida, discovered dog sports, joined a wonderful community of local dog lovers, and become a certified therapy-dog team. She has taught me to be more present, playful, and willing to try things that scare me. The best part is that the joy she gives me now extends to the people we meet during her therapy visits and adventures.

Charley is joyful, affectionate, curious, and convinced that every person she encounters is a potential new best friend. She has the gentle, intuitive side that makes her a wonderful therapy dog, and she is also a loving and patient big sister to Lorelei, our rescue puppy. But Charley is also deeply goofy and always ready for an adventure. She loves swimming, learning new tricks, dressing up, exploring dog-friendly Miami, and making people laugh. She approaches nearly everything with an open mouth (tongue out!), a wagging tail, and the unmistakable confidence of a golden retriever who assumes she belongs in every space.

Charley is a certified therapy dog who visits nursing homes, workplaces, and community events throughout South Florida. She has earned her AKC Canine Good Citizen, Community Canine, and Urban Canine Good Citizen certifications, along with Trick Dog Novice and Fit Dog Bronze. She trains in obedience and rally and is preparing for her first Beginner Novice competitions and her next trick dog title. Charley also helps me share accessible, science-informed content about dogs and the human–dog bond through @charleygirlgolden. She is comfortable at public events, loves meeting people, and has experience representing pet organizations and brands. Most fittingly, she attended The Big Woof Festival last year and placed third in the Golden Glam competition. She would be thrilled to return, not only as a competitor, but as an ambassador for the festival and South Florida’s dog-loving community.
